In Colin Rowe and Robert Slutzky’s “Transparency,” transparency in modern architecture could be categorized into two subdivisions – ‘literal’ transparency in Mies van der Rohe’s application of transparent materials, and ‘phenomenal’ transparency in Le Corbusier’s ingenious space organization. To push it further, I develop variations of opacity in transparent material via refraction and reflection. With the multi-sensory experience of space and time, materiality has the power to excite people’s imagination.
