Proscenium-arch stage type had its greatest influence in the late 19th century. With stage lighting, it creates the “fourth wall”, which separates the actors and the audience. The audience is absent from the performance. In the twentieth century, the stage designer acknowledged the presence of the audience and made the attempt to break the fourth wall. Theater is not only a place for shows but a deep communion of beings. Nowadays, we live in a society that revolves around rationality instead of religion. Can the theater be the opportunity to once again liberate the spirituality of humans and become the contemporary ritual space?
