This studio, among others in Design Program, focuses on architectural design and history/theory. Over five thousand years' civilization, artifacts and music, cumulated numerous layers of sparkling creation, among which myriad paragons are worthy to enrich our design ideas, especially when we attach our own interpretation and concept.

Since Wang Weichieh, the capo professor, has taught in this school over twenty seven years, majored in design and also had historical training on fine art, architecture, music, and Christianity, this studio takes  history/theory as an effective tools for design. History is not only a sort of records of the past, but means to inquire etymologically. Work of inquiry is no more than providing an insight through which one can catch a sort of revelation or image-thinking to get through practical design, one may start the pursuits for the essence of the project, of the context, the site and environment, cultural and physical.

Language reading and traveling are also emphasized in this atelier, especially when one will engage oneself on Western architectural history/theory. Since travel is a good threshold to design, this atelier has been organizing Urbs&Arch Travels for over ten years. We have varied tour programs such as Italy, France, Greece, Turkey, and Egypt.

NOMOS Design, a design group supervised by Wang, subordinated in this atelier, undertakes many small projects –public art, interior design, product design, and visual art/design, commissioned by NCKU in recent ten years.

In a word, the goal of this atelier is to ensure the concrete formation from history/theory to practice. Welcome anyone who is interested in practical design, history/theory of art, architecture, and music into this atelier.
